Abstract AR

Abstract EN

An anti-hero is a main character in a story who lacks conventional heroic qualities and attributes such as idealism, courage and morality.

The anti-hero became prominent in early 20th century.

The British version of the antihero emerged in the works of the "angry young men" of the 1950s.

The protagonist in these works is an indecisive central character.

Anti-hero is a literary device used by writers for a prominent character that has characteristics opposite to that of a conventional hero.

The protagonist is generally admired for his bravery, strength, charm, or ingenuity, while an anti-hero is typically clumsy, unsolicited, unskilled, and has both good and bad qualities.

Winston Smith is a primary modern anti-hero in the novel 1984.

He is a loyal Party member, who works in the Ministry of Truth, where he changes historical records to fit the opinions of his leader, Big Brother.

One main flaw that Winston has is the fact that he lives his life through fear.

He has no one who is close to him, and lives almost his life as aloner.

He doesn't have the ability to think reasonably.

Despite all of these flaws in his character but he believes the equality and freedom for everyone in society and displays courage by rebelling against the party.
